I've been exploring the various 20's and 30's communities in the area, including at Tremont Street Shul (also known as TBS) and Cambridge Minyan. I've been to a few Shabbat dinners at Hillel and Chabad at Harvard and in Brookline, as well as in Jamaica Plains. While Cambridge is known for its college and post-college/ professionals community- and a mix of people who are both secular and observant- Brookline has more of a feel of religious communities and established families. Jamaica Plains, meanwhile, has a more singles and hippie scene.

I've met a lot of people in these various settings- the trick is finding the people I mesh with and finding the time to connect with them further. The same questions of, "Where are you from?" "What do you do?" "Why did you move to Boston?" is becoming an annoyance, and even exhausting. While meeting people is a constant process, I guess I'm anxious to get to the point of knowing people, them knowing me, and moving beyond the basic and boring questions introductions bring.
Other than that, life is pretty boring. I've gone on a couple of dates- none of which seem to turn into a long-term relationship. I see my nieces once every few weeks, and am keeping busy at work, with parent conferences coming up this week. I'm pretty happy working in preschool. I enjoy putting up bulletins, playing with the kiddos at the various centers during free-play, and leading circle-times. I'm grateful that I've got great roommates, a stable job, that our apartment is coming together, and for opportunities to meet others. But it would be nice if there were something exciting- like an outing with friends, a memorable Shabbat dinner, or some experience that would bring a little light during these short, dark, and cold days.
Also, as an additional note, I am working with several others to fundraise for an organization, Netivot that runs programming (Shabbat dinners, community events) for those in the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) communities. We are hoping to raise a total of $1800 by the end of the year (Dec 31), which each of us at a goal of raising $180 by that time. Donations can be made by going to http://www.paypal.me/netivot and will be acknowledged with a thank-you note, and perhaps something more.
